The Big Blow's highlighted charity project is to offer long-term sponsorship to two children in Adet, Ethiopia, together with ongoing support for the work of Brass Band Aid's school building and equipping project in the same village.
Official Partners for the event were: Tor Designs Ltd, Brass Band Aid, Just Brass, Butlins, The Music Company (UK) Ltd and Handley Band Uniforms.
It was an event to remember with a chance to help change lives. Post-event sales of the official DVD and sets of The Big Blow March - Zephyrus will all go to carry on the charitable legacy of The Big Blow.
A unique record of the 2007 record setting attempt to create the largest brass band in the world. The Big Blow DVD covers behind the scenes preparation, associated events during the weekend, the launch and pre-event entertainment, the record attempt itself and follow-on post-event coverage.
A fantastic keepsake for an exciting event and every copy sold helps to strengthen the fund-raising efforts towards the long-term sponsorship of two children from Adet and the ongoing support of the Brass Band Aid school building and equipping project.
Zephyrus (named after the Greek God of the West Winds) is the replacement title for this original work by Andrew Duncan. As one of the Official Partners of the event the publishing house, The Music Company, specially commissioned this piece from Andrew to appropriately mark the historic occasion and supplied all the printed parts to the numerous participants for the record attempt.
It has received great acclaim from those who played it and the event conductor, Frank Renton, offered a very positive response when he led the largest brass band in the world to play it.
It starts with a traditional march style, upbeat and positive with a touch of pomp and circumstance. It then develops into a Trio section which offers an African style lilt, making the link to the inspiration behind the event and the writing of this piece. The piece lasts for approximately 5 minutes and includes optional percussion parts to enhance the African element.
A donation is being made by The Music Company towards The Big Blow's charity focus for every band set sold.
