Tim became a professional musician when he left school, joining the Duke of Edinburghs Royal Regiment as a trombone player. Shortly after attending the Royal Military School of Music, he began a civilian career, commencing with a course at the Royal Northern College of Music. His experience in the world of music has been vast. As a performer, he has played various brass instruments, keyboard, bass guitar, drums and percussion. He has played orchestral, wind band, brass band, big band, traditional and mainstream jazz. He has taught all brass instruments, both privately and in the state education system. Besides directing orchestras and bands, Tim has also directed two musical theatre groups.
He has been composing/arranging music in a professional capacity for over thirty years. This has included writing music for radio, recordings, music for drama, and a musical for a youth theatre group. Several years ago, he decided to turn his attention to producing music for the brass band. The music of composers/arrangers such as Philip Sparke, Gordon Langford, Howard Snell, Goff Richards, Alan Fernie and Darrol Barry, inspired him to capture these new innovations in brass band writing.
Tim's music is as varied as his own musical experience has been.
